More value from your compensation budget

A $15,000 HSA can provide more healthcare value than a $20,000 raise in salary.

In this example, your employee receives $2,000 more for eligible healthcare, while your business spends $3,500 less before applicable taxes. Here’s how the two options compare.

Ontario HSA questions, answered.

Can my Ontario small business offer an HSA?
An employer can offer an HSA to eligible employees through a properly structured plan. Business structure, employee relationships and plan design matter. Wellbytes can help you review the appropriate setup.
Are HSA reimbursements taxable to Ontario employees?
Eligible medical reimbursements under a qualifying Private Health Services Plan (PHSP) are generally not a taxable benefit to employees. The plan must meet applicable requirements. This is separate from taxes payable on plan costs.
Can an HSA work alongside our existing benefits?
Yes. An HSA can help reimburse eligible amounts left unpaid by another benefits plan, within the available allocation. Employees should use other applicable coverage first and provide the relevant benefit statement. The same expense cannot be reimbursed twice.
What will my Ontario business pay?
Under Pay-As-You-Use, your business funds approved reimbursements plus a 10% administration fee, with no subscription fees. An Annual Plan bases fees on your projected benefits budget. Contact Sales to compare your options.
What happens after I click “Start Online Setup”?
You enter the online onboarding process, beginning with business and contact details. Have your registered business name, office address and contact information ready. Your CRA Business Number is optional at the first step and required for activation.
How is the plan funded, and what happens to unused allocation?
An allocation is the benefit amount available to employees, not a forecast of claims. Funding arrangements and any reserve requirements are confirmed for your plan. Carry-over of unused employee allocation depends on your plan rules; it is not an automatic cash refund to employees.
